Information Required When Transporting Hazmat

Before deciding to ship hazardous materials, you must first gather the necessary information to ensure you follow strict rules and regulations. Here is a list of the information that you will need before deciding to ship hazardous materials. 

• Shipping Name - The shipping name refers to the name of the chemical, like sulphur, activated carbon, and alkali metals.
• Hazard Class - Providing the hazardous class tells which of the nine categories the material belongs to. 
• ID Number - The ID number correlates with where the material sits on the Hazardous Materials Table.
• Packing Group - Packing groups refer to which number is associated with the material: I is high danger, II is medium danger, III is minor danger.
• Mass/Volume - You must add the total quantity of the hazardous material that is being transported and must include the appropriate unit of measurement.
• Additional Information - Any necessary additional information should be included, such as any special permits required and a notice detailing how the material is hazardous.
• Phone Number - You must provide a number that is monitored 24/7 until the material is transported. The one monitoring the phone must have access to emergency response information.
• Emergency Response Info - The emergency response information must include detailed information about the immediate danger posed by the hazard material. You must also include if the material is a fire or explosion risk and what precautions must be taken for accidents, leaks, spills, and other information.
